Ingrid Kelly Spillmann
Ingrid is based at the Institute of Science and Technology, Austria (IST Austria), where she manages all aspects of technology transfer for the life sciences groups. She is also a member of the team at IST Cube, the VC fund set up by IST Austria to invest in early-stage academic spinoffs from Austria and beyond.
IST Austria was established 10 years ago, with the dual ambition of conducting excellent science and promoting entrepreneurship. An exciting ecosystem is emerging on campus, as tech companies take up residence at the newly opened science park, which is also managed by the Tech Transfer office. Technology transfer at IST focuses heavily on providing encouragement and support for translational research and spinoff establishment.
Ingrid started out as a patent attorney, and worked for a number of years in the intellectual property field in the pharma industry and in private practice in different European countries. She entered the technology transfer profession in 2012, when she joined the University of Vienna Tech Transfer office.
Ingrid has a PhD in molecular biology from the University of Cambridge, holds European, UK and Swiss patent attorney qualifications and is a registered technology transfer professional (RTTP). She is the author of “Patents for Technology Transfer” (2016).
